Quick question regarding HnH and new PC

Postby Kurina » Fri Nov 19, 2010 7:27 pm

I have a relative who enjoys playing this game quite a bit, and she has recently been looking to invest in a new laptop, and I am trying to help her find something reasonable. I was going to go with a dedicated card inside, but she is considering a less expensive system with integrated graphics. My question is, will this game continue to run pretty well with an integrated gpu? I have no idea how this game works in particular, and whether it is heavily reliant on the gpu, or more on the processor and memory which will definitely be on the better side.

Would appreciate any feedback. Just hate to jump over to integrated graphics, then find out she cannot play the game or it ends up stuttering, etc.

In my experience, H&H runs poorly with integrated graphics. If the processor is decent it can run OK if there's not much on the screen, but large wheat fields and the like will slow things to a crawl.

This game probably runs like shit on any PC. It's java and I heard java is hard to write and you need alien skills to make java games look and perform good. HnH looks like shit and runs like shit, can't do anything about it =)

I imagined Loftar's face when he reads that, and now I can't stop giggling.

I can confirm what spectacle said.
When I ran the game on a PC with integrated gpu(intel) it always sort of lagged, stuttered and was just painfully slow. While on my other PC with dedicated video card, it ran fine.

I can confirm that the client runs fairly badly on Intel cards specifically (due to the glCopyTexSubImage2D function which seems to run abhorrently slow on some of those GPUs (I don't know exactly which ones) for some reason). I don't know about integrated nVidia or ATI GPUs, however.
