Firstly, LP gain is related to the animals level, so if you are hunting in a different area, or in a place where a village has been made recently, you will be getting less lp per kill. However, only getting 1k for a bear probably means you didn't stay in combat with it the whole time. The little picture of the bear in the top right corner needs to stay there the entire time. If the bear starts to run away, run your ass after it.

Has nothing to do with the age of the village, but its authority. The higher the authority of the village, the lower the level of the animals that spawn near it.

Killing herds is worth more LP than a single bear. Usually. I kileld a level IX bear and got like 6k lp.

its better to stay where you are and dont move, the bear will eventually come back to you and just let itself be killed

Not always the case, they tend to run out of range THEN run back after the second nonfatal hit or if they can't reach you (in boat)
