how do i use my fishing rod?

ive been trying for ages but i just cant get hang of it how to use fishing rod, any help plz!

Craft a fishing pole, then left click a string source and right click it with the pole. Craft a hook and attach it to the pole, then dig for bait. Keep the bait in your inventory. Use the fishing action and throw it at the water.
