What's the deal with mines?

Postby Villainous » Mon Nov 22, 2010 5:00 am

I have no idea what they are, how to find them or create them if possible. New player and I just want to figure it all out. So do you have to go to a certain place to mine or what?
Helping with the noobies gives you brownie points with god.
Just sayin.

Well with that respect to the god comment: "Abandon all hope, ye who enter here."

Mines are pretty much all found and in use. The best way for you to get any metal is to find someone with a mine already and barter with hem. It sucks I know, but a reality none the less.

Also, there are plenty of villages with mines that need help as well. Join one.

Eh, teamwork isn't really my cup of joe. Neither is relying on people I hardly know with a product of hours of work. But I suppose, due to the nature of this game, I have no choice but to comply.
Besides, all mines are found? Shouldn't there be a natural resource repopulator thing in the software or something?
Psht.

Nope no dynamic resources. Your either stuck waiting till new grids open up, for world 4, or just suck it up and trade.......or live happily without metal, it's really not that big of a deal for a long time anyways.

I suggest just working up to trade for the basics:
Some kind of metal armour
Metal Cauldron
Scythe
Meat Grinder
and the all important brickwall.

maybe a pickaxe

I suggested these on the notions of really annoying things about this game. Armour because no noob with a sling will be able to take you down, helping you from getting pissed off at the permadeath system. A clay cauldron just stopped me from doing anything that involved boiling. With the 12 minute warm up time, it is pretty damn annoying. Metal cauldron has no warm up. Farming by hand is tolerable but once you use a scythe you will never go back, it is just that good. Meat grinder is for grinding meat into sausages without trying to find feldspar or cave clay, and not having to worry about what recipes are restricted. Brickwall is pretty essential in this part of the game. As it has been said countless times around these forums " Palisade kickers are a dime a dozen" the only really secure wall is the brickwall, and even then wallhoppers are a threat. Pickaxe is good because you can make cellars with a bar of any common metal, and can chip stones pretty fast, My one friend swears by them, takes it everywhere. Then again, he carries his keys around too.

Good luck, and get to know your neighbors, they can be really helpful at times.

A little problem. Every single settlement within an hour of clicking distance from my hearth is either abandoned or raided, and my only neighbor is a 4 year old russian. I do suppose that it's nice being so isolated, because nothing ever really gets stolen. One time though, some bastard came and stole my leather at an early part of my game. Bastard. I'm still mad about that.
Anyways, thanks for the well wishing I guess. I'd still like to know how to open up a world map and locate myself, so I don't have to manually explore my surroundings and maybe somehow plot a course to a somewhat active town where I could possibly trade thousands of fish for a few nuggets of fucking iron.
Man, software needs an update.
Anyways, you were talking about a world 4? Do explain. Newbie here wants to know all, and when so he can get in on some action.

Those abandoned places may have mines, if they don't have personal claims, I suggest looking around a bit.
