Two questions

Why is my personal beliefs "clock" showing 17 hours if the maximum is 8 hours?
Being afk (ZzZz) will count towards the personal beliefs?

The time depends on which way is your Tradition/Change and the ZzZ time doesn't count.

Correct, you can not afk too long to make it reset. However I think Taavi is getting the wrong idea to the question asked. It does start out at 8 hours REAL time, but the time stated in game is actually game time. I can't recall what the real time to game time ratio was, but if it says 16 hours, its actually a lot less. Keep in mind Taav's statement is still true (though irrelevant to the question) change will lower the time.
