Right-clicking on mac laptop?

Postby babylon » Wed Nov 24, 2010 3:09 am

Hi there! I'm interested in playing; downloaded the client and everything seemed to be going fine except: I can't figure out how to right-click. Perhaps it's just not possible - or maybe I'm just missing something completely obvious? Typically on a macbook pro it's ctrl-click to right-click, but that doesn't seem to be working here. Any tips?

thanks!

are there any settings you can change in system preferences that set part of the trackpad as a right-click? if not, i'd advise a usb mouse, rightclicking is essential in this game.

First, I should clarify: ctrl-click instead of right-click works great on the laptop OTHER than in H&H, it's just in the client that it doesn't seem to be happening.

Second: Nope, I don't believe so. The trackpad is pretty much the trackpad. A mouse doesn't help me much if I'm on the couch, I'm afraid.

(longer version: most of my game time is also tv time with my husband, so I am out in the living room on the couch with the laptop. I have other machines available to me, but that's the one I'm most likely to be able to play on regularly.)

Ctrl-click in this game has a specific function (move while aiming a ranged weapon) and that apparently overrides the default mac behavior. Your best bet is probably to re-assign some key you don't need while playing h&h, such as caps lock, to function as a right click. I'm not very familiar with macs so I can't say exactly how to do this, but any mac-geek worth his salt should be able to help you. (Or alternatively say it can't be done, if macs are more restrictive than they should be)

Ctrl-click is also dropping. :)

Doh, how could I forget :D
I guess I'm so used to pressing Ctrl-click to drop that it's become a reflexive rather than a conscious action. I suppose I play this game too much

Katie: Check this link for a possible solution: http://www.tuaw.com/2008/05/28/mac-101-right-click-on-a-laptop/ it appears it's possible to use a two finger tap on the trackpad as a right-click.

I don't know why ctrl-clicking wouldn't work (thought it is as people state, that ctrl-clicking is rather important anyway; less important than right-clicking, however). I'm guessing the AWT overrides it or something, but I don't know. I don't do anything particular that would cause that effect, however (it's not like I tell the OS that I'm explicitly expecting ctrl-clicks somehow).

But on the other hand, doesn't tapping the touchpad with two fingers usually count as right-clicking on MacBooks? (Edit: Beaten by Spectacle's ninja edit)

I don't think multitouch works on the pre-Macbook Air laptops, and I'm pretty sure assigning corners for specific functions is only available with the giant trackpads implemented in 2008. The best I can come up with is a trackball or an external trackpad, but those seem kind of stupid for this. I'll see if I can find a way to reassign it.
