Generally, things that would reasonable be kept inside to avoid weather deterioration do, indeed, take quite heavy amounts of damage outside. Keep them inside a log cabin, and they won't decay.
The loom is one of those things. I don't remembed off-hand the exact list of other things with the same property, but it's somewhere within the relevant Announcement thread.
