Where can I make a house?

I want to make a log cabin, but it keeps saying I cant make it where I am. Do I need to make it in a town or on land that I own?

A log cabin requires a 5x5 paved area and a timber house requires a 7x7 paved area. In the long run you would be better off making a timber house, in my opinion.

Make a plow, plow the ground, chip stone, adventure/landscaping/stone place the chipped stone on the ground (NOTE YOU DO NOT HAVE TO PLOW GRASS JUST THE DIRT!
