How do you know how far apart to make your milestone markers

Postby hfacktor » Thu Dec 02, 2010 4:31 am

Since there's no visual indicator like with beehives and such, how do you know how far away to make each of your markers for a milestone trail? Wiki says max length is 500 pixels, and loftar has said that tiles are 11 pixels long, so just count out 40-45 tiles? Seems tedious. I'd rather make the path efficient and not have 100 markers when I only need 50, but with no real visual indicator when building it's hard to be efficient with it.

Well I just eyeballed it and it seems to be working fine, however I have another question.

On the wiki is says that if you connect the last milestone marker to itself, it'll close the trail so that that marker can be used to backtrack the other direction. However, whenever I try to use the sign from the last marker on itself I don't get a connect dialogue box. How do I close off the end of a trail so that the last milestone marker can be used to travel back to the milestone?

Yeah, don't connect the final one, otherwise, when you hit the end of the road, it will make you walk right back to the begining.

Well then how do I signal that the last milestone marker is the end of the trail? I want to be able to walk up to the marker and right click it and be able to follow the trail, but if it's not connected to anything then I just get the 'extend / connect this trail' dialogue.
