how to see quality of certain stuff?

is there a way of knowing of quality of a tree, soil, water etc without digging, takeing a sip, or takeing a branch? may be there is a key combo which display the quality of the object.

Same question for kilns, oven, herbalist table, etc, how can i know the quality of them?

To 1) No.

To 2) Only by putting stuff in/on them and see how they turned out.

Improving both things the way you asked for (or at least similar to it) have been suggested alot on the Critique&Ideas forum though, so maybe one day we will see it getting changed.
