Extending palisade walls

Say i have built a palisade square and have one gate (the usual scenario).If i did not seal the cornerposts can i extend from a cornerpost to build an aditional square and gate?

line represents the starting palisade structure dot represents new palisade started from old cornerposts.
Why i am asking this?
Maybe this way i wont have to start a new cornerpost to build a new palisade square.
