About death

Postby Galf » Sun Aug 09, 2009 11:35 am

I'm curious about the death mechanics of the game, and I haven't seen any help in the FAQ,in the how to, in the whole forums and on the wiki.
How exactly does it work? How do you die? (as in, you can die by losing all your hp or you die with some kind of "death blow" and 0 HP only mean "KO")
also, what happens when you die? you lose all the equipment you had and you have to go pick it up again on your corpse? you lose all your skills?

please explain.

When you die you lose your character completely.

However you can create a new one and re-incarnate yourself and you get LP based on a percentage of the total you had when you died depending on where the Tradition/Change belief slider was set at.

The middle is 50% and each increment is worth 10%
Full Tradition = 100%
Full Change = 0%

Granted I am lucky enough to not have died yet so this is just what I have picked up from looking around.

And you don't get to pick your equipment from your corpse. The guy that kills you will loot everything that's of any value.

High risk is kind of the selling point of this game.

Thanks. No idea what full tradition and full change are though, but I'll work it out. Maybe.

You'll want to open up your character sheet (the face at the highest point on the UI) and look at the last tab, which is Personal Beliefs. Tradition/Change are the last things on the list; Changing any other slider will move it towards change. You get a point once every eight hours of playtime.

For more info on personal beliefs, check the Wiki at http://havenandhearth.wikia.com/wiki/Getting_Started#Personal_Beliefs.\

Note that the downside to having Tradition is that you gain LP (XP) at a greatly reduced rate.

Also, as regards death, losing your equipment is generally piss in a bucket compared to losing your life. The fact that others can also take retribution through the Scent/Ranging/Tracking system is also a deterrent to random acts of violence... Sometimes. As Potjeh said, high risk is a selling point of the game.
