How to get cows on rafts?

Well, Me and my village-members found a abandoned cow and raft, But we can't seem to get it on the raft. Even when using a leash. Any help?

It's probable that that cow does in fact belong to someone, however if you are content with taking it drive the raft close to the shore, right click the raft and then left click the cow (assuming the cow is also near the shore).
