Paving over plants

Hi, just want to ask a few questions:

If I plant a crop, and then lay stone over it immediately, will the crop still grow?

Also, if I build a palisade or something over it right after paving it, will it still grow?

I want to make a palisade with hops under it, but I'm not sure if I should wait until the crops are fully grown before extending the walls.

i'm relatively sure it will still grow, since this happened in a village i was in once

It works perfectle, seen it @ other villages and it looks damn freaking awesome. Not sure though if the crops must be fully grown first, but probably not.
