Finding the wilderness

Postby Resistance » Sat Jan 01, 2011 4:11 pm

Hello, sorry about creating another thread about helping a newbie find his bearings but I'm a little stuck.

I want to find a good place to set up my kingdom, I don't really care where it is but everywhere I seem to go is a short walk from another village, I want a little room for expansion. Maybe a bit of security away from everyone.
I want to find untouched land. That is what the game is about, finding untouched land. Discovering a nice place only to discover its got four villages centered around it simply isn't very fun.

I want to be an explorer, like Dora the Explorer! I want to find a nice place that is new.

Now, I've already read a thread sort of like this but I really just want to have a bit more help, how can I get away from all this infrastructure.

Or alternatively whens this reset you keep talking of?

Thank you in advance.

Just walk, walk, walk, walk some, then walk a little bit, and then you could try walking some, walk a little more, then walk some until you find a place with a mine, or HQ natural resources like clay, water, soil, etc.

So basically wander around until I find a place?

Is there any quicker or guaranteed way that a person can get to the wilderness? I've been walking south west for ages and ages and all I'm finding is more and more villages! I can't find out where I am on the map and therefore can't set a route and I'm constantly worried.

Well you could re-establish one of those villages...

IF you can, go for a VERY high q soil/clay area

they go for prices.
W3 - Apolion, Terricieil (old & new), Westedge & Saltmummys other place.
W4 - Quahog
W5 - Yggdrasil (now gone) - New Yggdrasil.

They all seem tended too, most are even owned. I don't like the idea of loads of hearth fires being around me.
Seren, I will do. I'd better keep my tree's in tiptop condition.

I'm playing just for a few days now and where i got my HF is really deep wilderness - so much that i'm down to a quarter of HP mostly by encountering boars, boars and boars again. Some important stuff is nearly not to find and it took very long to get an insect for making a sling. And eating up all the apples in the area isn't funny and now they're all gone. Roaming further means meeting boars, boars a beer, boars again... ;)

Maybe you should be happy to start in "civilised" surrounding to make your first steps in HnH. Just check the basics, level Char and then go for the wild animals...

My 2 cents

its also best to get boat building before setting out, or you might have some troubles actually getting anywhere

The first thing you should probably do is find where you're located on this map http://havenmap.student.utwente.nl/.

Might be a bit hard to do.. took me three days before I found out where I spawned. Keeping track of the village names will help. Or ask your neighbors.

Once you know where you are it becomes a lot easier to plot a course. I'm waiting till I get 1000 perc*exp then going to go find a place... Moving will be harsh but fun I suppose. 8-)

*hoping for a reset soon though*

Never try to wander or explore without boat building. With boat building, finding a river is just a fairly quick process of cutting down trees and making boards. Without it, finding a river is like finding an impassable, bottomless chasm. Bringing food and water is a very good idea too, in case you run out of stamina while being chased by a boar or bear you could stop for a quick second, drink and run some more. If you can, travelling to the edges of the map (north or west are good choices) you probably won't find many people out there so it is good if you want a solitary lifestyle.
