64bit versus 32bit

Postby DatOneGuy » Mon Jan 10, 2011 7:33 pm

Is there a difference in choice here? If I'm on a 64bit computer, will HnH run faster, better, anything if I use 64bit over 32bit?

I have similar questions. Apparently a 64 bit handles RAM a tad bit better and is more geared for it. I think you must use 64 bit if you're computer is running 64 bit and 32 if its running 32.

Problem is you can use 32bit Java on 64bit OS, and I find it's typically used so... heh.

If H&H would use more then 2gb RAM, then yeah, you would see any difference between 32 and 64 bit versions. But i'v never seen it useing more then around 500Mb, so i don't think there is any difference at the moment.

It's only a choice if you're on a 64bit OS anyway.

The 64bit JVM deals better with lots of data than the 32bit, but it also doubles the size of the memory pointers, so performance takes a hit if you aren't using a lot of data, which is most likely the case with HnH. Test it out and see if you like.

For more details, have a read of this.

I'm running 32bit xp, so this doesn't really apply to me, all I know is that I don't even get the option to run 64 bit. :x
