Hmm this is what i found and i can "Mine" it so... A metal place near me :D?

Not necessarily. Sometimes, it's just the ability to create your own little alcove. Also, watch out for collapses. Something like 50 HHP in damage if you get hit or something.

Depends on the distance from the entrance, the further you go in your cave the softer the rocks will be. Most of the time normally.
Softer rock means less str needed to mine it.

My cave says "slighty too hard" in the beginning and "too much for you" deeper. So I'd say is random
