Re-Using Names

First off, I'm new here, so please go easy on me. I created a character and discovered I was on an island, completely penned in by rivers. I didn't want to settle down on the island (where several other players had clearly already started to set up shop) until I managed to work my way up to building a boat, but rather find an isolated place in the wilderness where I could set up my own little stronghold, so I decided to simply kill off the character and start again. I was very disappointed when I went to create a new character and discovered I couldn't use the same name because I "already have a character with that name." The character is dead, I have no interest in inheriting anything from it, and I just want to start again somewhere else with the same name. Is there any possible way to do this? Or am I forever banned from using that name? That would be really frustrating.

just name it II or Jr. or something, you can't have a character with the same name on the same account... you could make a character with that name on a different account if you REALLY want to.

Not even if it's dead? That's the thing I don't understand. There's permadeath, so that old character can never come back. Why can't I be allowed to make a new character with the same name - especially if I'm allowed to make one with the same name on a different account? Seems silly to me.

Because it's still referenced on the account by name.

im ok with it. in addition to II, Jr. and the second you can just make one with capital/small letter or an _
