World Map

My search-fu skills seem to not be functioning right, or I just fail, but I can't find anything about the world map. Is a new one up for W4 yet?

No. Seeing as how revealing your location is a serious security concern until most people have an established fort/city , I wouldn't expect a good world map to be published for at least another four months or so. This is about how it happened with world 3 anyways.

Besides, what are you going to use the map for anyways? It's not like knowing your absolute position in the world really does you much good at this point. There are no major trading centers established yet, nowhere significant to travel to. Friends can be located through the hearth secret system. You can get to an arbitrary edge of the map by boating in a given direction for a day. Your local area can be easily mapped using the *Gilbertus client and mqrius's **mkmap.exe with a basic photo editor. Can't really think of any other reasons to want a world map.

4 months???
you'll insane maybe 2 months i've already got 1 SG pretty much fully mapped will be moving on to others soon but as you have said it would be a security risk to release the map right now...
the main question/problem im facing right now is how mqrius made his site with the zoomable world map...

It would have proven your point much better and also proven you really do understand how to fight people and not only how to slaughter helpless sheep.

I didn't say it would take 4 months to map it, like you say, you've already mapped a good portion. I'm just speaking from experience with world 3. It started around January or Feburary, and it wasn't until around summer that the world map really took off. As for mqrius, I'm pretty sure he used the Google Maps API, but I have no experience with that personally.

Put the mkmap.exe in the maps folder of your Gilbertus client, and then after you've mapped out an area with Gilbertus (by walking around, it saves the minimaps), run the program, and it will stitch together the maps in each session folder. Note that Gilbertus makes a new folder every time you start it, and the stitcher can only assemble the maps from a given session together. It's up to you to put together the larger pieces. I do it by hand in Photoshop with a grid set up so the pieces snap into place. But there are probably programs that could identify overlapping maps and do it automatically.

I figured out how to do it right after I put my post and noticed all pictures in my map folder, but thanks. The windows panorama tool couldn't do it, but I think I can solve that.
