Ranging and Scents

Let's say that a ranger wants to track a murderer. Do rangers leave scents (Stench of Murder, etc) when they kill a murderer that they tracked using their ranging skill? I want to know whether it would be easy for the friends of the murderer to try to track down the ranger and murder him as revenge.
