Is there a science to random passive animal behavior?

Postby LinkR » Wed Jan 19, 2011 2:02 am

So I am sure some of you have experienced it at some point. A boar walks by from under the trees cover and doesn't even give you a second glance... An apparent blind bear casually strolling through the forest NOT with a hunger for human flesh. Why does this happen? Is it a bug? A skill I do not have telling it to back off for now? I have hunting, so I don't see why they aren't ripping me a new one yet.

They're wild animals... it's random.

I only mentioned that because I wanted to debunk any claims that that would be why nothing was attacking me. I am definitely NOT complaining. I just get the shit scared out of me when a boar casually walks out from a tree like a freaking ninja pig and then just sort of... walks off to do his thing. It just leaves me flabbergasted is all.

I sometimes believe that animals have a line of sight, so maybe you've been behind a tree and they didn't see you?

do animals of lvl iV or lower still leave people alone? it used to be that way once. I dont know cause my previous spawns were in real wilderness, Lvl VII was the lowest we found, but we seem to have spawned all pretty close to one another

The level has nothing to do with it, it's the type of animal that counts. Foxes, mouflons, aurochsen, deer and ants leave you alone if you don't attack them. Boars and bears will attack you when you get too close.

in world 2, animals of lvl 4 or lower did not attack you, whatever species they were. Since then i've only been in areas with lvl 7+ animals so i dont really know if its changed. Judging by your reaction they now always attack. Would be nice to try and find a lvl 3 boar to test it

The animals seem to be at fixed levels now, and the devs have been speaking about wanting to remove animal levels altogether. All the foxes I've seen lately were level IV, all boars VII and all bears X.
