A question about Cave Mining.

So, I have Tin inside a cave already. So I know how most of this works. Except this time I prospected a different cave. And it says the "There is Copper located beneath you." Thing. Yet I can't build a mine hole. So I suppose the Copper ores is in the walls of the cave? Or do I simply have to build the mine hole outside?

Yup. I never built a mine hole inside a cave before, didn't think about paving.
