Hello can anyone who uses Ubuntu (linux) explain to me how I can go about installing Java 1.5, java 6 is available through the software center, but I am not sure how to get this order version, can anyone help?

Well, you can download java 1.5 (java 5) from the official page.

OK now my real issue is with the installation process once I've downloaded this file, I really dont even know where to start

Try what loftar wrote with "java5" instead of "java6"

Ok so I still need to download the jre 5 file that does nothing when I click, then type that in, correct?

it should download and install automagically when you type that, if it doesn't work then the command is probably slightly different, I'm working from memory here :)

If he's using ubuntu, then that's the command he would use, like you said, replace java6 with java5.

He should also have to enter a sudo password.
