Metal Quality: Am I doing something wrong?

Postby Cingal » Thu Jan 20, 2011 11:15 am

So, I found the best clay I could in the nearby area (About Q30.) made a kiln (I assume this makes the kiln around Q30.) then got some Q27 boards as fuel, made bricks, came out as about Q28.

Made a smelter, (I assume the smelter is Q28?) mined some ore, used boards to make charcoal, came out at about Quality 27.

Formula on the wiki is (C+S)/ 2 which would make the metal around 27 Quality?

Smelt the ore, metal is quality 18.

Searched the forum a bit, found a few old posts about the smelter resetting to Q10 if nobody is watching it.

Still an issue? Or, is something else wrong here?

I'll try to find out more when the server isn't down, but, I'm pretty sure I was in the area for at least one of those smelting processes.

Ore have quality now, and I assume yours is q10. In w3 only smelter q and fuel q affected bars, now there is third factor

Is this based off an actual mine Quality or things like soil factors etc

Depends on the formula.

C + S + O/3 then the outcome would be 21 in this case.

However, C + S + (Ox2)/4 would produce 18 Quality.

Also, C + S (Being 10 due to reset)/2 would also produce 18.

So, has to be one of the last two.

My guess is that there is a stone/ore quality node which affects the ore quality. Just like you can sometimes dig up high Q stones on mountains.

This = true.

I can vouch for this, my tin ore is q11 in one spot, q13 more left, and q14 further left.

Past that is rock, figure that one out. :roll:
