Struggling to kill boars

Ok so with the introduction of world 4 I have had to change my strategy in killing these darn things. From what I manage to get from the forum people have been sniping it until near death from the river, then chasing it to deliver the finishing blow with a good old fashion knuckle sand-witch.

HOWEVER. The issue I am presently having is the fact they seem to book it the second I deliver my first strike. Is there a strategy in positioning I am missing here? I am trying to get as close as possible without letting him actually hit me, but every time he cowers away before I can deal any decent damage to him

Can anyone please grace me with their advice?

work together. one agro from boat, the other builds a fence at the back. fleeing boars dont destroy things, so it cant get out. Its already agro, so it wont attack the builder

Well practice makes perfect. This time the boar managed to get a swing on me ,but missed. Now he doesn't seem to want to run right off the bat. Maybe the tricks to bait em with a little blood...

Edit: he ran on the third hit.. again nowhere close enough for a punch to finish him... /sigh!

Stop walking/crawling and Run. You run Faster than boars -- therefore you can always catch him and hit him again. When enemies are running from you, you always hit, so therefore you can defeat a boar if you've got some stamina on your bar.

Yeah thats the problem though. He's running far before he has taken enough damage for me to hit him in melee enough before my stamina runs out. Owel.. I just killed one in probably the most unlikely way I could do. He actually let me sign trap him at the water.

make sure you are on full (or nearly full) stamina before it runs (otherwise drink water)


you can at least hit it 2 times with full stam. if that isnt enough try to pump your str a bit (e.g. with fishes).
if you life in a community a better hunter might be able to give you a bear hide or neclage (both pump str)

also the barbarism-belief buffs your str for a certain percentage of your base-str

The first shot is usually a freebie, so try to make it count. The next shot that contacts will usually make him run away from me, so I try to be ready to jump out of the boat to chase him.
