Maintaining crop quality

Postby barra » Sun Jan 23, 2011 10:06 am

I know this has been reported as a bug, but I haven't seen a confirmation that it is a bug yet so I'm assuming there's several new unknown factors to farming that didn't exist in W3. I'd like to discuss them. So far I know that soil quality is at least one of the new ones.

How do I keep my crop quality up? Even on a good soil patch and high farming, the q is dropping every generation. So far I've been resorting to mass WWW foraging and just counting on max nature to triple the seeds with only one generation's worth of quality drop, then replanting with other dry WWW. This is time consuming and will never get crops above the quality of the WWW seeds that are planted. The alternative is replanting and getting higher volume but lower quality seeds. What can you do with a hundred q1 carrots? :?

If someone has figured out the "secret" of W4 farming and would like to share, could you tell me and everyone else who's struggling what we're doing wrong? Is it maybe plow quality or distance from other crops, or something else?

I noticed an increase in the quality after I started using a scythe.
