Character Disappearances?

Hi, I haven't played in about a month, but my friends from my village (who are also my friends in real life) told me that I should get on because someone stole all our stuff. So today, I try to get on, only to see that all my characters are missing (I had four) and that when I make a new character, there isn't even a runestone for me to inherit the traits. Now, I have stolen some things before, mostly just stuff that I really needed like a little bit of food so I wouldn't starve to death, and I don't think someone would have killed all my characters since I only stole before on one character. I even made sure to leave a rune stone behind explaining the situation of missing food. I'm going to go ahead an assume there was some sort of server wipe, but before I do anything, I want to confirm that there was in fact, a server wipe.

So why have my characters disappeared?

yep, there was a wipe. you could have checked that by only looking into the announcements....
