Also is it even worth it, I mean, is his client so much better than the one from the site? Anyway, how do I install this bad boy on Ubuntu (linux) I have it downloaded, just not sure how to install it.

You don't install the client, you just run it.

Try 'java -jar haven.jar' in the console (make sure you're in the right directory). If there's a error message, you can work from that.

Welcome to linux, enjoy your troubleshooting.

This. Your first few months running the distro will seem like a crash course in black magic.

That said, if you're having issues there's only a little shame in running the windows client through WINE. ;)

@troyboy1
Hey, whatever solution you come to could you kindly post it here? I still know basically nothing about linux, as my prompt to get ubuntu in the first place was a lack of a windows installation disk and zero moneys.

@slackbheep
That said, I'm totally willing to be the biatch and resort to wine until I'm more comfortable, but all I can do with wine atm is install and run conventional programs. Since it seems H&H doesn't really have a bona fide installable client with an .exe and all that, how would I go about using wine for this? I got the windows (and linux, to no avail) client from that mediafire link but it's just a folder with a lot of filetypes that mean squat to me, noob that I am.

Insofar as attempting to run H&H in ubuntu is concerned, in Chrome I just get an autohaven code file that reminds me my java is broken or I'm curious. In Firefox the log-in screen does appear but doesn't make it past "Connecting..." before a huge string of errors pops up. :/ I've installed and reinstalled every variant of linux java from java's site, resulting in each case with Ubuntu doing nothing with it even after enabling permissions for the files to be read as executables. The version from the Software Center is sitting pretty installed but isn't doing dick to run this game.

I just wanna plaaaaaaaaaaaay!

Chrome requires Java 6.5, which is a beta build, that's why you get that error when trying to load the game, as most vanilla ubuntu installs don't have this update, and it's not really required by any other browser or os as of yet.

I haven't been able to run Gilbertus under Ubuntu 10.10 either, and doubt that it can be run in ubuntu at all. I don't see how using wine would help, as it runs .exe files, and this obviously isn't an .exe file.

So, what are we to do?

There's no way to edit target paths as suggested and no way to download a full client from anywhere. Guess we're just stuck with the vanilla H&H and will forever be longing for a larger screen and x-ray.....

I have no problems downloading the autohaven file from the site and opening it with sun java web start, wish this would work with the other alternative clients.....
