Where should I invest my LP?

Postby Kaiser-W » Sun Jan 23, 2011 11:53 pm

Hello,
i started the game without much knowledge. As most of us I'm sure, I learnt as I went.
So I set my goal to get the skill 'prospecting' to start mining for our town. After long LP Grinding and building basic building for the community, I finally bought the skill. Only to read more about the item needed, to find that I need rustroot extract. Which is A LONG WAYS AWAY for our village. Quite hard to find afaik. High perception/Exploration needed..
ANYWAYS.
Now I'm uncertain as to what to do. I want to take up hunting, because I need to provide food; hunting isn't too far off from being a warrior afaik.
And because I have high strength for mining, maybe I should go for mellee/unarmed instead of Marksmanship?
Take a look at my pertinent stats:

Base Attributes:
Strength: 17
Agility: 12
Intelligence: 17
Dexterity: 14

Skill Values:
Unarmed: 8
Carpentry: 4

Available LP: 3519
Learning ability: 348%

Is going melee/unarmed against hunting animals advisable?

Let me know if I need to be more clear.
I would appreciate any advice.
Thank you.

Even with my current stats and desire to be militia/fighter? Would I just be a archer type? And would that utilize my strength?

What about survivalism? If my fellow villagers are leveling that, is it still advisable for me to?

MM is a good intermediary to getting higher stats for other skills (such as UA/Melee).

Everyone should have enough MM to hunt efficiently, although that is my personal opinion.

Edit:

Basically you're so low lvl it really doesn't matter what your current stats are. You'll realise this later on.

Makes complete sense.
Good explanation.

I guess i need to change my mentality; I'm thinking this is similar to RS, where your stats determine your LVL, and if not chosen carefully, can put you at a disadvantage.

Edit:
Anyone else want to add their opinion?

My advice is you forget about Runescape. In this game ants do kill you, and you wont have any luck going fist-to-fist against a fox until you get decent q armor, high UA/Melee combat and high Cons.

MM is the way to go, all you need is a sling and ~10 Marks which is 5400 lp.

Indeed.

I'm definitely going MM.
1.
Is there another MM complimentary Skill Value that I should Level?
Other than:
-Survivalism
-Carpentry
-Exploration

2.
Also, Sling>Basic Bow+Stone Arrows right?

3.
Should I even get Archery early on? Or until I can get a Rangers Bow?

Fixed that and then: No, but you need to level the attribute 'perception'

Search for a thread called "chicks, cocks & penetartion" or something very similar and read the OP.

Furthermore, seriously, try read a little more. Check out wiki. You made a good choice with pushing to get prospecting early just to find out later that it's more challenging and still you have not read what exactly it is you need.

Hint: Stick with prospecting, go find yourself a mine... and don't stop looking until it's an iron, silver or gold mine

Trust me man. I consider my questions and read about the shit. I ask them because I tried to research and was confused.
I spend all my time reading the wiki, forum posts. These pages are always open to the side while playing this. But you should know that this is not a very user friendly game. Thats why this forum section is here I would think; to ask questions.
With that said, I appreciate your reply.

I cant tell if youre being sarcastic about the mining thing. I'm supposed to keep going with it? I can't prospect without rustroot, which is hard as hell to find apparently.

I'm not being sarcastic, rustroot is piss easy to find.

However, let me put that in perspective, compared to Runescape, everything in this game is fuck hard. I don't have the exact per*exp result of when rustroot becomes visible, but it's close to 600, so that's easy and then just add water.

Finding a mine used to be fuck hard depending on when you start looking for one. Now, this map is absolutely massive and it's only been live for a week or so. Plus, there are also mining in caves now. Go get your iron... don't give up until you have it.

- Why iron? Because you need wrought iron to build a brick wall and you need steel (which needs wrought iron) to build a brick wall gate. Because you can do more with iron and get better items, than with copper or tin or both.

- Why a brick wall, is a palisade not good enough? A palisade may be good enough for the early stages of World4, but in no time there will be players who can single handedly break a
palisade. A brickwall can only be broken with a battering ram (go read up on battering ram).

- So if you need iron, why do I also say silver & gold is ok? Because silver is way more scarce than iron and gold far more scarce than gold. This may have changed somewhat yet again with the addition of mining in caves, but still: You can trade silver and gold for iron, that's the point.

People with iron could hardly give a shit about copper or tin, iron can do what copper and tin can do and more... and way better.
