Okay, mine in a cave, seriously?

So there is me using rustroot in a cave - it says that an iron blah blah is below me, so I paved a ground into the cave and realized that I can build a mine hole. Is there anyone who actually build mine in a cave? Will it be any use to build one? Cause the walls of the cave is still giving me iron ore..

Only for precious minerals (silver, gold), for tin/copper/iron you can use the nodes that exist in ALL the caves. You just need a little effort to search for them.
