Newbie question regarding bones.

Postby Zooey » Tue Jan 25, 2011 4:02 pm

Hi, just started out a few days with a couple of friends.

We've been stuck at quality 10 bones. We've done a lot of reading so we understand that a high quality bone - > bone saw is pretty important but are unsure of how to go about getting bones above q 10. Do they only come from foxes/boars/bears? Is there a cap on bone quality we can get from rabbits/chickens (we don't have a coop yet so wild chickens.)

Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

Rabbits, chicken, mouflons and aurochsen only give Q10 bones unless you breed your own chicken in a coop. To get higher Q bones you have to get them from other animals like foxes, boars or bears. Foxes have the lowest Q, bears the highest. Your survival skill softcaps the quality of the bones you'll get, so raise it a bit and you'll get even better bones from those buggers.

Ah I see.

Would it be advisable to go the unarmed/armed/marks route for a new player?

Unarmed/melee is basically useless against animals until you have good armor and many skill points in them. I'd advise putting some points into marksmanship and getting a decent sling.

Mostly true. You deff should get a good sling. At least Q 10 and up. Work on your MM to somewhere near 20. You don't really need armor to successfuly hunt, but it will reduce the chance of death caused by lag or an unpredictible AI. You can kill a boar with a combo of shooting it from a boat with a sling, then chasing it down and punching it when he runs. This is where having roughly 15 unarmed combat comes in handy. You run faster then a boar, so you can chase it fairly easy. You can also deal full damage with every punch as long as it is running, so minimal skill is satisfactory. Good luck.

So this would involve going around in a boat and hopefully chancing upon boars etc. near the water?

Yes, it's also advisable to have a high stamina when you get there since boars have the tendancy to run away when attacked enough.
