Is this item particularly worthwhile to use for day to day fighting or is it better to use something else lest the ants eat it.

They do. However if you don't have very good armor your defense bar can crash in seconds. Not to count the chance that it's low when you get attacked and your armor takes the damage.

I wouldn't risk it, use a bear talisman instead. You don't really need much strength to fight ants anyways; are you doing it for combat experience or for the loot?

with around 35 melee I killed a fox without armor I had full advantage and it didn't stratch me.

I'm about to brave the world outside and figure how the combat system works right now i just snap rabbit necks and pen in foxes, the ants have been taunting me however with all their moving. Speaking of which is there a guide or video on how to get the most out of the combat system its all very confusing looking. I got lucky and some one left a dead bear in the middle of no where and its drying atm i didnt want to lose it since it seemed like a decent item to have around.
