Cuirass or Bronze Armor?

Postby slipper » Fri Jan 28, 2011 9:53 pm

With the changes in smelting, jewelry crafting, and the Agility influence in combat made the UA much more efficient than melee.

Is it worth keeping a Cuirass (agility bonus + UA bonus + half good protection) for the bonuses, or is better switch to a Bronze Armor (agility penalty but higher protection)?

Well, with some effort, I can make a Cuirass with a quality higher than the Bronze Armor quality.

i guess it just depends how much better. q90 cuirass is actually more armor than q50 bronze, plus it buffs combat and agi, so it's a no brainer there, but if you're talking about like q50cc vs q40bp, you gotta weigh the pros and cons. more armor is good, but so is a boost to combat skills and agility.

This early I'd definitely go for a cuirass, and switch to steel plate when you get like 100-150 agi.

Where I do not disagree that UA is more efficient then Melee, I don't believe Agility helped this, in fact, I think it helped Melee more.
My reasoning is that, UA users have to grind STR to increase their damage, where Melee'rs only have to have increase sword quality. This could mean, that melee user's could push another attribute over STR, like... Agility.

As for the question between BP.. and Cuirass, my answer is the same as everyone else's :P

Right, but that's the issue. Good quality swords aren't any easier to get now than good quality armor. With the new smelting formula, changes to steel causing it to likely go down during the wrought stage and not being able to go up during the steeling process, most metal is currently very bad. Even with q100 fuel and smelters, q10 ore gives q55 bars. Compare this to last world, where I was using q70 smelters and q80 charcoal, and pulling out q74 metal, which got hammered out into almost q80 armor.

Metal anything is heavily limited now in quality, and getting good quality equipment now is going to be much more difficult. Unarmed is largely more powerful now because it relies less on those equipment items and more on stats.

No, UA is more powerful because of manoeuvres, and lack of old world thanes (which we'll never see again).

And you need str for dealing damage with a sword, dude.

I would agree with Potjeh in saying that Maneuvers make UA stronger, I made a post about this.. I'm sorry, I suppose I was mis informed about the damage behind swords.

I had always asumed STR played a part in sword damage last world, but when W4 started, looking through Wiki and other things, I didn't see anything saying such a thing. And another edit, I see the wiki has been updated to show this.

It's based off of geometric average of strength and weapon quality.
