When does exp*perc become excessive?

Postby LinkR » Sat Jan 29, 2011 3:57 am

As I am reaching 1100, I am starting to wonder just when that number becomes pointlessly huge. Now I know 1100 isn't anything impressive, and I should keep building it to see more clams and such. But what IS the magic number; if there is one?

From what I've read, the way it works is that each item has a base value. That base value allows you to see half of the items, average. At half of that value you first begin to see them, and at twice that value you will see them all. Thus if you can figure out what perception ability is required to start seeing the highest value forageables, and multiply it by four, you'll be able to figure out where to stop.

Seems 5,000 would be the "all" value for blood stern, but... it's blood stern. Around 3,200 for mussels. 3,520 for all feldspar.

Seems a good value to shoot for would be around 3,500. That'll let you see all of everything except for blood stern, which is barely used for anything.

That's pretty insightful. Thanks for the quick response.

Does seem a little climactic for an "endgame" herb if you think about it, but you can't argue the mask looks awesome. Even if it does give people the mind set of "shoot on sight".

What Zamte said, however, for me the important bit is the LP investment. You can't invest LP into Perception but you can into Exploration. So, figure out how much (chance of incl.) you would like to see right now, or the very near future and add LP to Exploration. Your perception stat will grow over time and therefore, so will the result of Per * Expl. Rather focus on investing LP in the core stats of the toon you are trying to build up.

This goes for foragables. If the current scent detection mechanic gets a revamp, it would be worthwhile investing more into exploration over time in order to detect scents.

If you do it evenly, those values aren't too bad. I leveled my unarmed from 1 to 60 in a few hours of mining, and if you have 60 exp and 60 perception, you've hit the mark. With how quickly carrots and beetroots grow, getting to 60 perception shouldn't be too bad. So for a dedicated forager, it's not too lofty a goal. Still a lot of LP though I guess you could spend in other things.
