Whats does a guy like me, do in a game like this?

So I been playing the game for a little while and I am loving it so far, I am all settled in a friend's place, I have my own piece of land and a timber home to call my own, but now come the question of, whats next. I am playing this game for one reason and one reason only, hunting! I want to be a big game hunter, but in order to do that I need the points to invest into marksmen, but in order to do that I need to gain points, what would you guys say the best strategy moving forward would be so I don't waste a bunch of points on things I don't need but have the proper skills to gain lots of points to pump into marksmanship?

Just get your MM to 10/15 get a sling and start killing foxes soon you will get enough lp to raise MM to kill boars and so on.

search some posts (using the search function on the forum!) on grinding lp. or just lp

generally, if yu live alone or in a village, the challenges of everyday activities for survival and advancement will bring you enough lp...

if you are with some miners and smelters, they may not apreciate you turning all nearby trees into buckets, or breadbaskets, for example

it also pays to have a second profession farmer/cook, survival sewing... and more. combine whatever is needed just get something to do when your main task aint woring out atm

Finding a hunting party helps. Finding a handful of co-ordinated folks and quickly fence in foxes, mulfin, and aurochs or provide extra arrows to shoot into a critter.

hey guys what level of MM would it be appropriate for me to use a bow and arrow? Also is it OK for me to be a pure marksmen for hunting, or do i have to invest in unarmed or melee?

Let me warn you about a few things.

First,

Unarmed is your defense for the maneuver "Dodge", which would come in handy if someone tried to melee you. Though chances are, they will crush your defense in no time, so it's more of a scapegoat to get away.

Second,

Don't go spamming your MM to hell. Your bows has an EML (Effective Marksmanship Limit) which is controlled by various things. You'll end up getting a bow ASAP, but it's EML is the bow quality x2. You don't want your MM to be higher than that EML.

So, if you made yourself a Q10 Bow, You would want Q10 arrows (Stone or bone.) and 20 MM.

Though, I would suggest using a sling until you can at least kill boars with it.

sorry but your advice reads far more clearer than the wiki and you actually can answer questions so why I have you i rather ask you. OK so are you suggesting I put some points in unarmed as well I am guessing, maybe like 50% of the amount I put in MM? Does this also mean I can't simply kill an animal with my bow alone and must rely on close combat skills?

I think it's more like if someone (human) wants to kill you, to hunt animals it's better from a boat than on land.

Right. Alot of people using a sword/UAC seems to target people using bows for obvious reasons. I would invest in a good amount of Unarmed Combat to protect yourself in case you're on land and someone attempts to kill you.

As for hunting itself, you don't really need unarmed combat at all, though it would help if you were trying to lure, or an animal somehow snuck up on you and attacks you, would definitely prevent some damage. As for your MM, just remember to never put it past your current EML.

Then as your bow quality increases (Which is softcapped by Survival I believe) you can increase your MM accordingly. But first get a good feel of hunting with like, a Q30 sling and 20 MM.
