How do I find more animals?

Sorry if this has been covered already, I searched for hunting, hunt, find, find hunting, etc. and found no relevant info.

How the heck do I find more animals? I only see like one every fifteen minutes or so along the river, should I be walking along land? Are there any specific places or times animals like to spawn or go to?

Especially bears. Bears are good.

That is just how frequently you are likely to find animals, keep looking. And for god sakes, don't walk, stay on your boat... enough of these "omg I walked and died, then walked again and died, walked some more and died, this game sucks because I refuse to learn and rage-quit" threads.

There're more animals around than you think. Many a time I've found a rabbit or fox hiding behind a tree or boulder... more times it's been a boar, though. Eh.
