Interesting... I never actually thought about this. Get full tradition and then go out and take a dip. But damn, how long would that take? That bar would take ages to move on the other direction =S

I did this just the other day.

Add them as kin and have them add you to their party, which will show a small arrow at the bottom of the screen in their direction.

Then its just a matter of having food and a boat and making your way there.

I suggest using rivers where possible, but be aware that its real easy to get way off course following a river, so dont be afraid of carrying your boat across land where it seems appropriate.

Took my about 20 minutes to find him, wasnt a big deal in the least and Im pretty low level.
