Hitpoints on items?

I have a Boar tusk helm, it says "Hitpoints: 142" but i still have 117 health. How does this work?

Hitpoints are more like the durability of the item.

Every armor has armor class consisting of 2 numbers. The first telling you how much damage your armor can just deflect, the second tells you how much it can absorb in addition, but this absorbed damage will be removed from the armors hp. This second number only comes into play when the damage you are dealt exceeds the number of your deflection.
