Hi, you can either raise your explo to ~10 and gather roots and berries, or find rabbit and catch them.
To fish, you need string, like the root you can find with the exploration skill, bone, found in rabbit or chicken at your stage, and a lure or bait. Bait can be found by digging for earthworm (not really recommanded if you lack food, it's a tiring process), or going to swamp to "gather" leech (they gather themselves actually, as long as you stand in a swamp. Look at the equipment menu). Lures can be made out of a block of wood (woodfish) or stone (the lobster thing). Fishing without a boat is kinda hard I guess, most spots are in deep waters.

you need bricks... to fish?

you wan't to kill fishes by throwing bricks at them?

if you can't punch a rabbit, you can search for fruit trees in a grassland or get foraging and rise your perception and exploration and start getting blueberries and later on chantrelles

Foraging --> find apple/nut/berry trees and pick fruit/eat them

at night, pick up rats and make rats on sticks

rat on a stick is not good food, it will slowly kill you
Learn from the mistakes of others. You won't live long enough to make all of them yourself.

There are two kinds of forest, coniferous and deciduous. The ground looks the same, but they are different shades of green on the minimap. Spruce and pine grow in coniferous forests, and there aren't any birch. Apples, hazelnut, birch, etc. grow in deciduous forests. There are often very large regions without any of one type or the other of forest, so if you can't find birch you probably aren't around deciduous forest.

But, like other people said, you can also use earthworms or leeches to fish.

You can also raid ant hills and eat the contents. If your combat skills are low, just right click the ant hill and click raid, then RUN away a few screens in any direction, let the ants catch up to you, then run a screen or two further, let them catch up again, and then run back and raid the anthill.

The ants move way slower than your run speed, so you might not even get hit a single time...
