Good time to start Stabbing Boars

Postby Nanoth » Wed Feb 02, 2011 12:35 pm

Now I for one have never gone melee, and also for one never gone far into hunting for an active 'living' but of late I have gotten the drive to up my MC skill. Now I know punching is 'better' over MC but I wanted to give it a go...

But still whats the best time to be able to go out and actually hunt Melee Combat style. I have UA of 20 and MC of 35. Am I even able to fight a Fox with that???

You can take a fox if you do it right, but stay away from boars for now.

40 MC is a good medium for fighting foxes. At 50 it shouldn't be hard at all.

I'd say 80+ for boars.

Also, punching need not be better than Melee, just because it's easier.

You won't be saying that in a week or two when you realize how many abandoned homes there are. A 30 second boat ride south of my village literally bring you to the ghetto. There's abandoned claims everywhere with the occasional newb taking things and raiders patrolling. It reminds me of Detroit.

If you understand the combat system. Too many newer players think they can't kill things because they spam the hell out of things like charge and their defense is gone and they're being hit within a few rounds. Balance your defense, use some slide and dash if you need to, and try to build up a decent number of IPs for use with flex, sting, and valorous strike.

In the old world I was able to take on level 4 and 5 boars and level 6-7 foxes with 40 melee. Wasn't until around 70 or 80 melee that I was able to take on the level 10 foxes. Boars now ought to be of similar level to the ones I fought at 80 melee, so that's likely a good number to shoot for. However it's largely dependant on equipment, and the q92 soldier's sword I had then gave me a lot of benefits you likely won't have with the new smelting formula.

EDIT: Accidentally typed unarmed in place of melee in there at one point. Sorry for any confusion.

I reiterate that you won't get hit if you keep your defense bar up in my guide I think. You should be fine with 80 UA or MC if you keep your defenses up and the advantage balanced at least. Armor helps a lot if you mess up, no take that back, armor saves your life.
If you keep focusing on the shadow behind, you will not see the light in front of you.

Being successful isn't just about hard work and succeeding, it is also about picking yourself up when you fail.
