Farming, how does it work?

Postby stybayo » Sat Feb 05, 2011 10:37 pm

I already know how to farm, plant, etc. What im asking is about the q-determining factors. What part does soil q play? And what is all that fuss I read about soil q being nerfed or something?
Anyways i'd like to understand the mechanics and the formula to calculate crop Q. Any tips would be awesome

Farming quality goes basically like this.

Every time you harvest a crop the quality of each seed is random value between [-5,+5] of the quality of the seed that got planted.

There are currently 2 caps in the quality for plants.
The first one is soil quality which is a soft cap. When the quality of the seed planted is above the quality of the soil the quality of seed you get from harvesting is a random value of [-5,+2] so it become harder to raise the quality of your plants above the quality of soil.

The second cap is your farming skill which I believe is a hard cap. I am not entirely sure how this cap works but if I remember right it limits your quality of plants to your farming skill + 3.

I may be wrong on some of the specific numbers I gave but this should give a good idea of how the quality system works for farming.
