Do try and read more mining threads... we have way too many.

As for the answer to your question. Mining caves and mines require variable str... lowest I've heard of was q10str with q10 stone axe. But I've also got a wall thats still not minable at 150str with a pickaxe... :?

I also have the same problem, but mine says "the rock is just slightly too hard for you to mine." Does anyone have experience with this and know around how much STR I'll need?

I'm using a Q16 Pickaxe and have 78 STR.

Also, what's the easiest way to get STR raised? I know bear meat gives a lot, but if you try to eat too much, it takes long to get the bonus.

Picture: Oh, and when you mine a wall, does it make an indent in the surface or did my prospecting bug out and lie to me :| ? Will I be able to reach that other path by mining a wall to it?

It's a big chunk of rock. Try destroying it.

Regarding "just slightly too hard for you to mine", from what I understand the damage you do to the wall when mining is sqrt(str*qualityOfTool). I don't have any hard evidence for this, but in my experience the "just slightly too hard" message is probably when the soak of the wall is something like 1-4 points higher than your damage.

Quality of the tool has a huge impact. I couldn't mine a wall in our copper mine with my q27 pick (much too hard), but was able to with my q35 stone axe. Now that I've upgraded to a q39 pick, I can mine with that, and faster.
