Prospecting?

Postby gadwin » Sun Feb 06, 2011 7:22 am

i have a copper mine and today i got my first few rust root and started to prospect some caves near me small small caves and when nothing showed up i found it a bit odd

so i went to my copper mine and used it right at the copper node it said no mineral found so i mined a bit got some copper there is copper there

so not sure if i am doing something wrong or the game is just bugging i was like 1 tile away from the node and the q was 25 can this stuff not find minerals in caves and only be used to find surface mine spots?

q of rustroot extract determins the area it will prospect. I don't know the exact formula, but its much smaller prospected area than in w3, so you gotta try more often - use more extract to find any minerals.
W8 - Hermitage
W7 - Emerald City
W6 - Gomorrah
W5 - Pandemonium
W4 - Angkor
W3 - Angkor

1. The formula for the area that will be proespected, iirc, is: (Rustroot q -10) * 5 by (Rustroot q -10) * 5

2. Prospecting is bugged... it does not work, and I don't think that we have heard a word from dev or mod on when we might expect this crucially important function to be fixed.

3. There are a few threads addressing this already, use 'search'

Prospecting detects minerals one level under you, so it's normal that it didn't point to your copper node. Had you prospected on the surface layer above that spot, it would've detected it.

You likely weren't close enough to the exact spot. Prospecting range is tiny now.

First, are you sure you were right above it? It can be pretty hard to travel the same distance above and below ground, since there's no map below ground.

Second, rustroot sometimes fails to find minerals within its range. I also believe that if it fails once in a given square, re-prospecting in that square won't help. However, moving a little bit and prospecting again /will/ help. Move around the area a bit, and my guess is eventually you'll find it.

1 more question dont want to start a new topic if it says there is iron below you does that mean its right below me or its in the general area i searched
i just want to make sure not to build over the iron and have it deleted when the mine room is made

I think it's right under. The nodes tend to be quite a bit bigger than the shaft area, so even if you destroy some ore it'll only be a small fraction.

New prospecting is bugged like hell. Sometimes I prospect the same tile with the same rustroot extract and first I have circe with direction of the metal, second time there is info about no metals found. Onother thing is that sometimes I have only red circle with no directon... its so ... anoying.
