how to protect my camp

Hello.
Is there any way for beginner to protect his camp from bears? I woke up today and found a bear in my camp so I quickly entered a house. I've got fence all around the camp but it seems not to be able to stop them.

Claim your land, animals don't spawn on personal claims.

Aside from a palisade, which can be rather difficult to construct with a raw character, claiming's about the only solution. If you can find a pocket of cliff faces, however, I've noticed that animals tend to not spawn extremely close to them, so they can provide some natural protection.

I live right on a cliff and so far I've had a bear and two pigs spawn right in front of my house (at the time I didn't claim all the tiles inside my palisade so they must have spawned somewhere inside and wandered to check out my roasted chickens).

I've also had a whole herd of aurochsen spawn one morning... Too bad I was too scared to tame them
