Ore Smelting

Hello I'm new to the game and I have had a few problems with the ore smelting and was wondering if anybody has a solution.
What I don't understand is that I stick the ore in my ore smelter and then light it with some charcoal but every single time (I've done about 30+ pieces of ore) I have only had stones every single time I have done this I have full industry (while my friend has full nature) and I believe that is meant to give me a 20% chance of getting some metal.
so I assume I'm not that unlucky (hopefully) and whether I am doing anything wrong with the ore and what I can do to fix this

If he knows that he needs to be full industry he's going to have done it because he wants to mine. Who's going to make themselves full industry, then let somebody else mine for them, just so they can smelt?

It's entirely possible you've hit silver or gold. They have very low chances of returning metals. In fact I'd almost guarantee this is the case as even without full industry you'd likely get a bar here or there.

Just to clarify:

Does the Industry Personal Belief slider give you a 20% to get viable ore while mining or 20% chance to get a bar from ore you smelt?

We recently found (read: scavenged) some ore from some crates. We're curious if we'll have 20% chance of getting the metal from each or if we're counting on the guy who mined it was at full industry.
