like what is the big deal about HQ soil, what is it's purpose? please tell me why it is a big deal, i have found Q 150 soil but have nothing to do?

to explain it a bit more.... though its probably in the wiki too now, 150q soil means it will be quite easy for you to get 150q crops. trees need good q soil in tree planters pot and at their own spot for good q. soil is quite important

Another related question then - is it possible to raise the quality of the soil in any way (I'm guessing not, but might as well ask)? And does the soil quality act as a soft or hard cap for crops - since I'm farming, am I out of luck at my current spot for growing top-quality crops eventually, or is it just going to be tougher?

It's not currently possible to raise the soil quality.

If I recall correctly, loftar posted somewhere that if the crop quality is above that of your soil, the -5/+5 quality change for your crops instead becomes -5/+2.

So it's still possible to grow higher q crops, it's just a loooooooot slower.
