i noticed "to hard" "slightly to hard" "just slightly to hard"
what are all of them in their orders from easiest to hardest?

also i cave wall'd q13 stone. does this mean that whole patch is 13? or if it was dug it can grow like any node?

you can't scratch that rock

stone is just like any other quality node, except that when you mine out that tile it's gone forever.

when you advance your str and tool up to meet them, are you more likely to find ore in those spots? or is it just as random as ever.
