Timber House as corner of palisade?

Postby themendios » Fri Feb 11, 2011 7:48 pm

I messed up and made my timber house right on the beach, should I palisade behind it or is it as strong as the palisade? The wiki says it has a soak of 25 (which is the same as palisade) but no hp.

So should I try and complete the palisade around it or use it as a corner of the palisade itself?

Or destroy it but I don't have a battering ram and the 5 rope for the palisade was painful.

unless you can actually connect the palisade directly to the house.... its a hole, same as shallow water is a hole in your palisade

Crap - so I need a battering ram to damage it?

I suppose you could build a cornerpost and build around the house, excluding it from your walled area.

Theoretically, if you unlock the grid function on your wall, you can connect your palisade with your house so as to seal any holes that would have created. Your entire wall will be off center and you'll need to build multiple cornerposts but it'll be secure.
With this method, you'll have a hole at the very end of the wall where you end it at your house again, which you can seal off with another cornerpost which is unaligned from the grid in the opposite direction as to seal the hole either internally or externally.

So yes, your house would become part of your wall at that point, for better or for worse.
Hold Shift when placing your cornerpost to unalign it from the grid.

You can destroy the house without a battering ram, if you intend on destroying either the palisade or house.

I somehow doubt he has the 625str necessary to tear down his house without a battering ram.

Maybe I do (I don't). I just ended up going around it, guess the front beach house is the guest house. Made an extra 3 cornerposts which was a lot of log hauling but got it done!

When I settled I thought "hey cool I'm gonna put this house right on the beach for my fishing gal" and then when I got the point where I could build palisades realistically only then did I realize my error!

Any immediate thoughts on how someone might murder me in my sleep if I set 'trespass' for white so the front house is usable, presuming that I have the palisade locked up?

They would need to be on your kinlist to utilize easy access and even without it, using criminal acts to walk over a claim is a severely minor offense. It can't be used to summon and disappears very quickly.

They'd need to break past your gate to do anything anyway, so giving your kin access to walk on your land and look in your containers is pretty safe. Unless, of course, they got curious, saw something they liked, you left your gate open, and they decided to kill you and take everything. Then your carelessness would get you killed.
