Tree type and grow time?

Postby Halagaz » Sun Feb 13, 2011 12:31 pm

Hi i need to up my fuel quality for the ore i'm mining, and i'm stuck because of wood quality so i need to grow some nice trees as fast as i can to reach my cap.

I read a lot around about tree growing and it seam i need around a week rl time to have a fully grown tree, is that correct?
Now the thing i want to know is if the type of tree is important for the speed of growing, i can plant firs or pines in the forest i'm in since both grow there naturally, and it just seam silly to plant fir since they give only 2logs when they are cut, pine give 3. But whenever i find a growing tree picture posted on the forum it is always fir tree that seam to be farmed. Is there a reason like fir growing faster or something?

they grow when hit by a decay hit, no real way to predict em

To get better quality of the materials, like bark, branches, etc :)

Based on observation I believe this claim is at least partially false. I've planted around about ten trees at a time and they all increase in stage within an hour or two of each other. This leads me to believe that trees grow based on the same or a similar mechanic that crops do.

As to the reason the other type of trees might be grown, it might be for the boughs. Or just the fact that they don't take up so much vertical space and obscure so much. That's a guess though.

Edit to add: Also, you're not restricted to growing the type of tree that naturally grows there. You can grow other trees, they just take a bit longer to grow. But it could be a good idea to grow some of the non-native types, if you ever want to use some of their non-wood products (apples, mulberry leaves, etc.)

Only the last stage of growth is based on decay, previous stages are on fixed timer. And yes, firs grow quite a bit faster than pines.

I planted both fir and pine near each other and i will see the result, but my guess is that some tree type is growing faster than others just like in rl, we will see. I know fir is growing fast in rl, thats why its wood isn't very good in fact, but i don't know if it is the same ingame.
