Alts per account?

Quick and easy question, is there a limit to the number of active characters on an account.

Specifically I want to be sure my main character won't be deleted if I start a new one to help with teleportation

no, nor is there a limit to the number of accounts you can make

so if I create a second character and have him hearth secret to my first just to act as key storage my main will be fine?
